April 2026

April 2026

We hope everyone has had a good start to the season so far and the April showers haven’t hindered too many running days!
It’s been very varied for us in and out of the workshop this month.

Deliveries:
Early April saw two deliveries to Cambridge. The first was a Sit-In carriage, complete with rubber trim, checker plate and matching blue seat cushions. The second was a driving truck, delivered ready to meet its loco.

Services and advice:
We’ve had an IMP in this month for a 4QD Porter 5 controller upgrade.
We’ve also provided equipment and advice to convert a ride on Thomas toy into a working locomotive for a little boys garden railway.

Mid-April party:
Our new little hire set went for it’s first outing this month. Scamp #150 running on battery accompanied by a 7ft Colin Edmondson sit astride coach. Both loco and carriage are painted in matching pastel blue. All 8 little party goers sat comfortably with space on the carriage too, meaning nobody needed to wait their turn.
Scamp #150 is primarily our demo loco, and the one we will be bringing to as many Scamp based events as we can this year.

The carriage – whilst this one belongs to our hire set. We are looking forward to introducing the Colin Edmondson sit astride in June for customer purchases. This coach will be available in 5ft, 6ft, 7ft, 8ft and 9ft lengths – painted to a colour of your choice. The carriages sit on articulated bogies and will be available as either braked or unbraked depending on where they fall in your set.

Bogies, bogies, everywhere!
24 bogies assembled and delivered this month. 12x braked and 12x unbraked. Whilst 24 bogies doesn’t sound all that much – when the pieces laid out for paint end up in the 500’s, 96 wheels that need pressing and 192 springs that need installing – it does end up being quite the task! But the large quantity does make for some pretty impressive photos, and all bogies are now off into Eastern Europe to run their rolling stock as part of a huge upgrade.

Double Rainbow
A pretty double rainbow fell over the workshop this month, a nice reminder that even when you’re rushed off your feet and the skies seem dark and miserable, there is always something better coming!
