Woops! Somehow June was missed out, but I guess that just means there’s extra to look through now?!
Firstly, we need to express our deepest gratitude to all our customers for their continued support when things don’t go quite to plan. Following a temporary closure of couple of weeks we then entered reopening on a reduced workshop capacity. Whilst we are still working with that reduction to Chris’ daily input, we have, as always maintained our workload and kept things running smoothly throughout.
Whilst we work closely as a team, ensuring the business gives 100% each day, we really couldn’t do that without the support of you all behind us too.
“There’s always one…”
Another little boom in tail lamp purchases, though the biggest challenge is trying to get a video where they flash in pattern, or just a photo that looks somewhat planned. In reality though, these guys just flash to their own schedule.
Head and tail lamps are assembled to order, USB-C chargeable with a great battery life. Easy carry handle, on/off switch and compatible with our large lamp brackets.
Custom Orders!
Custom wheels ordered CNC machined and dispatched within 4 weeks, there were 8 wheels in total, 4x 8” on the tread and 2x 6” on the tread for a loco rebuild project.
Special Scamp nameplate, I really like this! A twist on having a normal generic nameplate on their Scamp, it was requested to use the Scamp number badge theme as a nameplate instead.
Giant and baby W. Our standard W signs weren’t quite big enough to be seen at a 15” railway, so we enlarged it, cut 5 and sent them on their way to stand tall in their new home!

t’s not all trains…
It’s easy to forget that this is ultimately an engineering business that specializes in miniature railways, but this doesn’t limit us to doing just that. The most recent of these ‘little’ jobs, was a lawn mower repair. And I don’t mean the push around your garden type!
But, a lot of it IS trains..
Mardyke diesel post hydraulic conversion, service and a few new parts. Is it just me, or do they look really odd without a body?!
‘Spuggy’ following repairs due to deliberate vandalism is now currently enjoying the sunshine on loan to North Weald and District Miniature Railway.
Saturday 8th August will be their summer miniature and model fest – if you haven’t already got plans on Saturday, do head over to see them.
We’ve also been kept busy with our general stock items, rolling roads, DIY items and gauges etc. We’ve also had our first heavy duty 7¼” portable turntable and Colin Edmondsons buffer stop orders.
Workshop shinys!
Lots of axles and spindles ready to get into locos, rolling stock and kits. Even gigantic ones!
Two little slate wagons for two little girls.
Another job that originally started as a custom job and swiftly became a commercial item. The team at Woolseys miniature railway requested a slate wagon to form part of their demo freight set. Destined to be paired with Rosie The Pink Engine, these slate wagons were coloured in matching pink.
Whilst the Woolseys run for charity at all times, Rosie is dedicated to raising money for the ‘Lets Play Project’ who offer safe play provisions for children with additional needs. As with many portable railways, they aren’t only available for private hire (birthday parties and such) they attend many public events too. Please follow their page, see where they are at and if you’re able to pay them a visit.
If you’d like a slate wagon of your very own, we offer these as both ready to run items or in kit form to build yourself. The designs for the flat wagon and accompanying slate sides are by the ever talented and well trusted Colin Edmondson.
For those of you who follow our Facebook page you will have seen the tough decision Chris had to make just recently. For those who don’t – Chris had to make the difficult and upsetting decision that due to declining health he had to stand down as the CME at Barnards Miniature Railway, a railway he has volunteered at since the very beginning and been CME of the entire time. It goes without saying, to leave a position you’ve held and enjoyed for excess of 15 years is not easy. But knowing he wouldn’t be able to maintain his own very high standards and expectations of himself and his work at the railway, and within the business, it was best to let it go rather than not provide his all.
On a plus note though, it does mean there’s now ample time for him to just visit all the different miniature railways instead!
The Scamp loco got even smaller
One of a few little ideas we’re working on at the moment is a teeny Scamp kit. This is only the very first prototype and there’s a lot of work yet to be done, but it’s so cute we had to share!
Speaking of Scamps, we have had a little influx of Scamp orders, 3 in kit and 2 ready to run. If you’ve always wondered what it’s like to build one, please join the Scamp Locomotive Facebook group, where you will find thousands of members happy and willing to answer questions.
As for it’s ease of driving and popularity – Scamps are owned by people of all ages, from the pre-teens getting into engineering and railways, right up to retirees and beyond who want to keep themselves active and busy (plus everyone in between)
If my just turned 4 year old can confidently and capably drive one, you can too!

Going into August will see the production of more Scamps, more slate wagons, Super Knights, carriages, a custom Scamp kit, a heap of bogies and more.
Let’s hope we’re finished with the heatwaves now?!
