Description
Tyke came about as a result of requests for a
Scamp with a forward facing seat for use on
continuous tracks. The Scamp has a single, 1
horsepower drive motor, the Tyke has two, 0.5
horsepower drive motors, so all wheels are
driven. It has the same pulling power as a Scamp.
Tyke is designed to be a petrol-electric or battery
loco, with a quick changeover possible between
the two. This allows for quiet emission free
running in the garden or at an indoor event and all
day running with passengers at a club.
The transmission consists of a 1.5 horsepower petrol
engine driving a 1 horsepower permanent magnet
motor used as as a generator or dynamo. The power
generated is fed into a speed controller then through a
reversing switch to the two half horsepower drive
motors. The generator unit can be removed in a minute
and replaced with a battery box.
Tyke is 1350mm tall to the top of the roof, 810mm tall
from the rail to the top of the controller handle,
985mm tall with the roof stowed for transport, 1515mm
long over the couplings and 500mm wide over the
frame.
The kit consists of all the laser cut steel parts to build the loco frame, bogies, bodywork and controls. Wheel sets, machined dynamo pulley, welded pivot pins and layshafts are also included. Kit price is £1750.00
A shopping list is supplied for all the other parts required to complete the build. Fully illustrated instruction are also provided in digital format. Colour prints available at cost on request.
The only option available is outside cranks and coupling rods for £160.00 This includes longer axles, welded cranks and coupling rods
